Syunji Obata was born in 1943. He started contributing his works to manga magazines when he was in high school. He served as assistant to Jiro Kuwata, and later debuted with "Kinsei o Keikaku" in 1965. He made a serialized publication with "Kyaputen Urutora", which was originally a superhero TV show, after publishing a lot of one-shot comics. He instantly became famous as a cartoonist. After that, he turned many TV dramas into comics: the teen sports drama "Gattsu Jun" (1971), as well as "Ai no Senshi Renibo Man", "Tetsujin Taiga Sebun". His other important works are "Masuku Man O", "Neo Masuku", "Matto no Shishio" etc.
He had 12 to 15 serialized comics a month for 15 years, but later he casted aside everything and pursued his dreams for 10 years. He has 4 or 5 serial comics on monthly magazines under a pseudonym.
