Jiro Kuwata was born in 1935 in Suita City, Osaka. His first comic, “Kaiki Seidan”, was published by Seigasya when he was only 13 years old. In 1957, his hugely successful comic, “Maboroshi Tantei”, which was originally titled “Syonen-Gaho” was published as a series. Maboroshi Tantei was later adapted into a TV show. The following year, he turned a original Japanese hero, “Gekko Kameri” into a comic. Since then, his popularity has not waned. His comic “8 Man” which began running as a series in 1963, was published by Kodansya in a manga magazine known as “Shonen Magajin. It was made into an anime in half a year and had such an unprecedented boom that it was averaging an audience rating of over 30%. He was also recognized as one of the leading figures in Sci-Fi hero cartoons. He is now living in Taiyo-mura, Ibaraki, where he is surrounded by the nature which he adores. He is happy to be away from the boom and bustle of the big city. His comics, with their high level of quality and a careful touch, show no signs of declining.
